What this does

Compress photo to 200 KB with as little visible change as the limit allows. Most photos get there with quality alone once they are a sensible size, so the pixels stay as they are unless quality 40 is still over 200 KB. The honest limit: a full 12-megapixel photo with fine detail may still need fewer pixels, and the row says when it did.

When to use this, and when not

  • Use it for exam and visa photos with a limit around 200 KB, and for any upload where quality matters more than the last KB.
  • For smaller limits, see 100 KB or 50 KB.
  • For a whole set going by email, compress photos for email watches the total instead.

Honest limits

  • The pixel size a form requires is not set here; crop and resize first if it fixes one.
  • Your browser's own JPEG encoder is used; sizes can differ by a few KB between browsers.
  • A photo already under 200 KB is kept as it was if re-encoding would make it bigger.

Privacy on this page

Capture information is removed by default. The photo is compressed in this tab, and only you save it.

Questions

Will 200 KB still look good?
Usually yes. Most phone photos fit under 200 KB at a couple of thousand pixels across and a quality that is hard to tell from the original on screen. Use the split slider on a single photo to judge for yourself before downloading.
NEET says 10–200 KB. Does this handle the minimum?
Choose Range in the recipe bar and type 10 and 200. A file under the minimum is raised with a higher quality, never padding. The NEET figures on this page come from a secondary summary, so confirm them in the official information bulletin.
What about the US visa photo?
The US Diversity Visa photo must be at most 240 KB and 600 × 600 pixels, square. This page handles the KB part; crop the photo square to 600 × 600 first.
What about a postcard-size photo?
A 4 × 6 inch postcard photo has more pixels to keep, so it may land closer to 200 KB at a lower quality. The row shows the quality and pixel size it got.
